We are all about Jesus. We want to know about Jesus. We want to learn from Jesus. We want to hear the words Jesus spoke. We want to know the things Jesus did. We want to be like Jesus. But ultimately, we want to know Jesus personally as our Lord and our Savior; as our God. We believe that a life lived without a loving relationship with, trust in and enjoyment of Jesus is one of ultimate sorrow.
The Bible declares that Jesus is the true and eternal God who became a real, living, breathing man. He was born of the virgin Mary, He lived in a normal family, did chores, went to school and worked a normal job as a stone cutter. Around the age of thirty Jesus was baptized and began to preach and teach that salvation depended on how one responded to Him. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus did not come to show us a way to God, but He came to tell us He is the only way to God.
However, Jesus is no mere messenger that came only to tell us about God or Himself, but He came to actually rescue us. The Bible says that Jesus came to die in the place of sinners (that’s us). Jesus said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). Also, the apostle Peter (a close friend and student of Jesus) said, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Jesus willingly died in the place of sinners.
After Jesus died on the cross in the place of sinners, the Bible said He rose again after three days. This validated His ministry and His teaching. Jesus was no fool who bantered about nonsensical fairy tales. He was no lunatic who didn’t know Himself from a rock. He was no liar. None of these conclusions make sense given what we know of Jesus and most definitely not in light of His resurrection. No, we are convinced that Jesus rose from the dead and confirmed that He is Lord.
After the resurrection, Jesus ascended to the right hand of God where He now ministers in power for His people and has promised to come back again to gather His followers to Himself and bring all those who reject Him to their just judgment.
At the end of the day we simply confess that everything is about Jesus. The main effort of the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments, all 1189 chapters, is to bring us to Jesus so we may worship and enjoy Him as Savior and Lord (John 5:39). Everything that exists was made by Jesus and for Jesus (Colossians 1:15-20). Jesus came to save us so we too may stop worshiping created things and worship Him in His glory forever (John 17:24). Given that He is so magnificent we can only confess that life is hell without Him.
